On the evening of April 5th, 2019 my cat (Little Baby) returned indoors for the evening. I noticed she was holding her front right paw up, and there was blood dripping down her leg. My spouse and I cleaned the wound to find that it was a perfectly round hole. We called a regular vet to take her for help. The vet said it sounded like we needed an emergency hospital with surgeons on hand. Upon arrival to emergency vets, they saw her right away. The x-ray confirmed that she was shot with some sort of pellet gun. Her bone was blasted apart, and there were tiny metal fragments strewn about. The initial treatment decision for her was to try to splint it beings we just learned that she has a grade 3-4 heart murmur, and that operation to wire the bone wasn’t a viable option for her. She was kept overnight for treatment, and observation. The next morning we received the call informing us that amputation was now the best option for her to have a full recovery. My spouse and I now had to make that grim decision to go forward with the amputation surgery to save her life, with knowing the possibly of her not pulling thru (as being high risk from having a heart murmur). We have 8 cats (3 of which we rescued). A rescued box turtle with a front leg amputation. A guinea pig, and a snake. As you can imagine, feeding, care, vaccinations and anything else they may need can get quite expensive. We have land atop a mountain. All of our cats are spayed, and so our fur babies are free to roam the yard. Never has a neighbor complained about this, beings we’ve all come to live on the mountain to have this freedom for us and our pets. I’m not sure how anyone could ever do such a thing to a life so innocent. Just breaks my heart!! My kitty has returned home after 4 days at the pet hospital, and is recovering from her amputation surgery with my care. As of now my spouse and I are financially strapped, and so we’ve had to place this bill on our credit card. And at 26% interest on $2,500 charge, we will end up in total financial distress. I’m not sure that we’ll be able to pull ourselves out of the hole with a mortgage, and monthly living expenses. So I ask that if anyone reading this could find it in their heart to help our furry family pull thru this, it would be ever so appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. Thank You
