Support our rescue sanctuary.

Namaste Sanctuary for birds which we started 6 months ago on our own steam after adopting a cockatoo needing a new home, and discovering that he had a broken wing and other long term issues caused by his human keepers.

Further visits to 'breeders' and pet stores, opened our eyes to the horrific conditions they endure -the exploitation, neglect, blatant disregard for their well being and objectification by their human guardians.

We believe that birds and animals are sentient beings and and deserve to be treated as such. The majority of captive birds are sold within the first two years and land up advertised for sale, in backyard breeding facilities, pet stores or in situations where they are neglected and abused.

We object to the current treatment of birds and other animals as a result of the pet trade, and are dedicated to the rescue, care, rehabilitation and rehome of these casualties of the pet industry.

We feel compelled to stand up and speak for those who cannot. To educate, spread awareness and hopefully also contribute in some way to the much needed changes in legislation.

In addition to this, our wild populations are being depleted due to the destruction of their natural environment and the pet trade. Humans are responsible for the devastation, and we feel inspired to try and do what we can to clean up our mess. We are committed to act as protectors and caregivers of these wild, innocent and beautiful creatures who share our planet.

We are currently filling up rapidly and need assistance to expand our aviaries, purchase more cages, cleaning equipment, heating and other supplies.

Our long term goal is to move to a larger, more suitable property and set up a sanctuary with large free flight aviaries, species appropriate vegetation and the best environment and care we are able to provide.

We would also like to take part in breed and release programs of local species. Our plan is to establish our sanctuary based on a self sustaining model, grow organic food for our birds, make use of environmentally ethical growing methods and the use of alternate energy sources.

We have already begun this work, but for our plans to reach fruition, we require the assistance and support of other like minded empathetic humans.

We hope to educate and inspire others by our example, enlighten and include local communities, set up education programs, and invite humans to be part of a mutual healing process.

We believe it is time for an awakening, for humans to grow up and accept accountability, to set aside selfish goals, embrace new paradigms, and assist these innocent beings live out their lives without needless suffering.
