Two Black Women, Adora Nwofor and Taylor McNallie are being targeted by the Calgary Police Service (CPS) for their work as activists in the global struggle for racial justice. Calgary Courts and CPS are stacking disturbing charges to strategically silence these women and their work to dismantle systemic oppression and create liberation for all. Follow Stop the Stack YYC to learn more background information and ways you can support the campaign.
Stacking charges is a well-documented tactic used to intimidate and silence Black people (source: naacp.org). It is also an example of vexatious litigation and legal abuse - in other words, an attempt to harass and subdue as well as psychologically harm Taylor and Adora. This results not only in enormous legal fees, but also makes it more difficult for these single mothers, who are both self-employed, to find work when the media reports charges that have been intentionally designed to smear their reputations. Other barriers are the time it takes to fight these charges in court and the emotional and psychological toll of living with the constant threat of harassment, arrest, and sentencing on top of the anti-black racism they already experience on a daily basis.
Taylor and Adora have given their lives to community organizing, mutual aid, and speaking out against racial injustice and police violence. This is your opportunity to give back. Donations will go directly to Taylor and Adora to support their legal and living expenses. Please give what you can - participate in mutual aid and redistribute funds to support Taylor and Adora!
