Campaign Story
Super Typhoon Rolly (Goni) made landfall in the Philippines on Sunday 1st November. It was designated a Super Typhoon due to the colossal wind speeds, reaching over 300 kilometers per hour. Gigmoto on the island of Catanduanes took the full force as Rolly reached land and are in desperate need of assistance. With mass destruction, casualties mounting and many more missing; the Mayor of Gigmoto posted a plea for help on Facebook, one of the only remaining means of communication at his disposal. Translated below:
WE NEED HELP!! No land transport due to landslide, no boats coming off the island since they were damaged by the huge waves together with the houses, no electricity lines and posts, no comm signal except for a lone satellite at the District Hospital, limited use of satellite signal, limited fuel for genset, houses and roads became beach front, remaining 200 sacks of rice divided among 2500 families. One casualty, total damage on agricultural lands, homes, livelihood and fishing motor boats. In a few days, food and essentials will be depleted for our town.
What can we do to help?
The Philippines Airforce are making plans to deliver aid supplies, which Forward Dyson intends to help stock with as much food as possible over the next few days. All goods donated will be received and distributed to the community by the local Mayor. Surplus cash will be donated to help with further purchases of food and clothing as the area digs in for a long recovery. Note: this is an urgent fundraiser, the community will run out of food early next week!
The Philippines has been a good home to our PAM manufacturing site and we have a chance to make a real difference by helping the community that supports our operations. Please donate any amount you can so we can help save lives.
Thank you.
