Help this ongoing fundraising campaign by making a donation and spreading the word.Steve Cioffi has struggled through some hardship in his career. He was not only a first responder as an NYPD Sergeant during 9/11, but continued working on Ground Zero following the attacks, working security. As a result of his time spent in the toxic area immediately after the WTC attacks, it is believed that Steve developed sinusitis and other unexplained allergies which were continuously being screened at Mt. Sinai. He has been a part of the World Trade Center Medical monitoring at Mt. Sinai for several years now.
Throughout Steve’s career, he’s battled thorough some pretty tough neighborhoods in the Bronx. Most currently, he has been an NYPD Lieutenant in the Central Park precinct. Steve’s toughest battle of his life started on December 1st when he was diagnosed with a “mass” on his brain. Two days later he had brain surgery to remove the mass at Columbia Presbyterian. The tests showed the mass to be cancerous, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer metastatic to the liver and brain, Stage IV terminal cancer.
The cancer began in his lungs, a probable result from his work and dedication to the people of New York at Ground Zero during and following 9/11. For those of us who know Steve, we know that his dedication, hard work and compassion for everything and everyone around him are standard! Steve is a giver; he has always been selfless when it comes to family, friends and anyone in need. Steve’s laugh is infectious and just being in his presence lightens up your life.
Unfortunately, Steve’s cancer has been rapidly progressing and time is not on their side. We are fundraising to help the Cioffi family in Steve’s final weeks so Luisa can provide the loving care and support to him and their two boys Owen and Max. Please donate what you can, and thank you for helping us raise money for the Cioffi family.
