Campaign Story
In attempting to address the structural and root causes of violence in communities, towards a more sustainable model of peace, there is a high priority to provide and strengthen communication and information facilities at the level of local communities. It is our intent to aid in the building of inclusive knowledge societies. As the urban middle-class family prefers to have convenient access to a wealth of information at their homes, offered to them by new technologies, a large proportion of the more rural and economically lower class population is facing not only infrastructure constraints, but also insufficient financial resources to buy necessary equipment for home use. This is true particularly for many communities in the Western Cape, including the community of Temperance Town Gordon's Bay. As an alternative, Speak peace, as well as other community stakeholders recommends a shared community access point, which should prove more economical, as well as more effective in this community where literacy, especially ICT literacy and the access thereto is, to an extent, yet to be attained. Such a facility also has the opportunity to offer basic tools for the introduction and management of community centred development and change.
The underlying purpose is to achieve equality of access to information, as a way/ means to address the structural and root causes of violence, towards sustainable peace, and the reduction of levels of inequality.
