Campaign Story
I have been accepted to take part as a volunteer in a Mental Health Hospital in Sri Lanka.
The mental health needs of Sri Lanka have continued to increase in recent decades. It is estimated that in tsunami-affected areas 40% of people suffer from a common mental disorder and there is a 3% prevalence of a severe mental disorder. Sri Lanka’s suicide rates are amongst the highest globally according to the World Health Organisation and mental health needs in Sri Lanka today are as high as anywhere else in the world.
Mental health care has only recently begun to be integrated with primary care in Sri Lanka, and this July I have the opportunity to help make a difference.
To make an even more significant difference when I am there, funding is greatly appreciated as there are many worthwhile Sri Lankan organisations which urgently need money to continue the amazing work that they do, such as 'Hope for Children' who empower families, and make education and healthcare more accessible for children.
Any donation is appreciated
