Sri Lanka – Sarah’s Orphanage Volunteer Project

Hi everyone!

Some of you may already know that in August I am embarking on a journey to Sri Lanka to spend 3 wonderful weeks volunteering in a children’s Orphanage. I will be leaving the UK on the 14th of August with two of my best friends Laura and Jess, where we will be heading to the capital Colombo. From here I will be spending time with the children each day, teaching them English, playing games and making sure they have an enjoyable and happy time when I am with them.

I am thrilled and I hope that I can make a massive change in these orphans’ lives, during the little time I will be spending with them, and to become a supportive figure that they can look up to and rely on when I am there. Many of these children will be in this orphanage due to the loss of their parents and an inability to look after them, this is why I will find it extremely rewarding to be able to give these children the love and affection that they need.

Our adventure is being hosted by the organisation 'Plan My Gap Year', where the fees I have paid help keep the orphanage running which includes employing support workers, paying for sanitation, general running costs and food for the children, as without donations and volunteers many of these Orphanages can not operate and will close down.

As part of our fundraising exercise Laura, Jess and I have taken the challenge to climb Ben Nevis the tallest mountain in the UK (AAAHHHH) in July, which will be a very tough climb, but will be worth it due to the money we will be raising to support the Orphanage and children.

This will no doubt be a challenging journey for me however it will be full of treasured memories. I am now seeking YOUR kindness and support in helping me raise this money to enable Orphanages in these areas to keep running and allow them to do their amazing work with the children.
