In June I hope to go, along with 2 others, to West Kalimantan on the Indonesian Island of Borneo for 3 weeks to volunteer in Living Waters Village (LWV). LWV is run by Christians and provides a home for over 450 children from isolated or remote villages (Dayak Tribes) and a school for many children who without it would be unable to receive any education. Many of these children are also sick, abandoned or orphaned, therefore a medical clinic has also been built, and other projects include a bakery for older children to work in.
The vision for LWV is that the children, apart from having their physical needs met and receiving an education will be fed and trained in the things of the Bible. They equip the young people so that they can return to their villages as well as go into other villages that are unreached, plant churches and bring the gospel to their people.
As a short-term volunteer I will be able to engage in activities with the children helping in the school, possibly helping in the hospital clinic and general help where it is needed (even if that is manual labour and building work!). I hope that this opportunity will enable me to be useful and effective in making a small difference in this community, and that it will also be a chance for me to experience a taste of foreign mission.
I am hoping to raise £1100 which will cover most of the costs for me to go. I am planning to undertake fundraising activities such as bake sales and car washes, but any other donations would be very much appreciated.
