South African Family Needs your Help

Introduction

In 2012 my dad was retrenched from a job that he had for almost 20 years. Being the only breadwinner, our family's conditions deteriorated rapidly. We were forced to get rid of everything we had in order to survive; our car, our furniture and most tragically, our home.

At the moment my family lives in a tiny bedroom in my aunt's apartment, together with my mom's other sister as well as her two daughters. As you can imagine, the place is pretty crowded and living conditions are from from ideal. They all share a tiny bathroom and an ill-equipped kitchen.

Background

My mom has been a housewife up until my dad lost his job. Since then she has completed a course in counselling and we are currently in the process of registering her so she can start practicing soon. She has a giving nature and even while having nothing, she has managed to spearhead many charity projects for the community. She is especially passionate about assisting under-privileged children.

My brother just turned 10. He is very intelligent and loves sports. While sharing a small living space with our parents, it sometimes becomes difficult to do the most basics things such as doing his homework. He has a bright future ahead of him and it breaks my heart that we can't give him better. And he certainly deserves it.

Current situation

My dad is currently working part-time to support our family, with the prospect of being offered a full-time position within the next 3-6 months (fingers crossed!). Although this experience has been tough and very stressful, it has taught us many valuable lessons. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter what you have, but who you have. And we are very lucky to have one another.

Campaign

We have recently come across a small family home that is available for rental. The funds raised with this campaign will thus cover the rent expense for a few months, until my family is back on their feer again.
