Esben’s class at the South Devon Steiner School are going on a major trip to Slovenia this June and they and their families have been set the challenge of fundraising for nearly half the cost, a total sum of around £5000.
To contribute to this, Esben is offering both PDF and printed copies of his comic ANTEN in exchange for donations towards the trip. Each printed copy will be signed by the artist and, you never know, it might be a collector’s item one day!
The comic is the story of Dave, as he battles for survival in the perilous jungles of Anten:
Travelling by shuttle towards the colony on the jungle planet Anten, a leak in the fuel tank forces the craft to land in the planet’s harsh alien forests. Separated from his fellow crewmembers, Dave must make his way back to the colony alone. Facing extreme danger along the way, his journey teaches him much more than just how to survive…
Esben conceived, scripted and illustrated ANTEN as his ‘Class 8 Project’; a major independent project in an area of individual interest undertaken by each member of his class this academic year.
It includes nearly fifty pages of drawings, worked on over six months, and is well worth seeing.
The trip to Slovenia
This two week trip to Slovenia is one of the culminations of the eight years that this strong and adventurous group of teenagers have now spent together before they move on to the Steiner upper school or to other local schools and colleges.
It will be led by their class teacher Andy, who, when he isn’t teaching them, leads eco-tours in all sorts of remote and wild parts of the world.
Last academic year a student from Ljubljana Waldorf School joined the class for several months as an exchange student, and for their first few days in Slovenia they will be hosted by his class. While they are in Ljubljana they will have the chance to see something of the city and hopefully to perform their Class 8 play Les Miserables. They will then head out in to the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps where they will be mountain trekking and white-water rafting. Their trip will also include visiting Slovenia’s fantastic limestone cave systems and seeing the Adriatic coast.
This promises to be an exciting, challenging, educational, culturally illuminating and enriching experience and a wonderful conclusion to the class’s time together before they each follow their individual paths forward.
Collective fundraising so far
Both the class and their parents have already been working hard, and through everything from wood chopping to putting on an event about the people and wildlife of Madagascar, at the date of writing they have raised over £2000.
Our fundraising target and what it will go towards
Our current fundraising target as a family is £300. That will cover the £180 share of the remaining total that we, as a family, still need to collect towards the Slovenia trip through fundraising, the £80 cost of printing fifty copies of Esben’s comic, estimated postage costs and the cost of using the Go Get Funding crowdfunding site. Anything raised beyond that will help the class’s collective fundraising for the Slovenia trip, and may also give the class greater opportunities while they are there.
Making donations and receiving a copy of ANTEN
Esben will be selling copies of ANTEN for donations towards the Slovenia trip in person, including at the Class 8 Project presentations on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th April 2019.
It is also very easy to donate and order a copy by credit card, debit card or PayPal here on the safe and secure Go Get Funding website:
First decide whether you would like a PDF or a signed printed copy of ANTEN and whether or not it needs to be posted to you within or outside the UK, then take good care to select the corresponding donation option. If you want to donate without receiving a copy then just click on the red DONATE NOW button.
Whichever of these options you choose, you can then decide how much you want to give. Anything from the minimum for that option is great, but if you can give more that would be a big help: We will need some much bigger contributions in order to reach our £300 target.
ANTEN’s official launch will be at Esben’s Class 8 Project presentation on Wednesday 3rd April 2019, so we will be sending it out after that.
