Hello everyone, a group of San Jose State and UC Berkeley students have come together in order to raise money to purchase sleeping bags for persons without homes in the San Jose metropolitan area this winter.
In this past two weeks seven homeless persons have been found dead due to exposure in the San Jose area. We hope to prevent future deaths by purchasing a number of sleeping bags that can withstand 0 degree weather.
Because of your generosity, we have surpassed our original goal of buying 100 sleeping bags to distribute to homeless persons in the San Jose area, and have already put in an order for 300 sleeping bags, as well as 300 pairs of socks, and 300 beanies paid for in full. Our current distribution date is December 20th given the shipment arrives on time.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO DONATE as there are over 18,000 homeless people within the Santa Clara County alone. Every dollar we collect will go to helping them stay warm this winter. We are now aiming to raise money to purchase additional sleeping bags, pairs of socks, and beanies.
If you can’t donate monetarily you can give away your extra hats, gloves, new socks and coats at the Mosaic Center in SJSU, at One Washington Square San José, CA 95192, Modular A (Next to A.S. Print Shop at Hoover Hall) Hours: M-F 9:00AM - 5:00PM.
If you would like to follow up on the purchasing and distribution of the sleeping bags, you can do so by joining our Facebook event page, where we will be sharing pictures of our progress:
