We're graduating students from LASALLE College of the Arts and we're currently in pre-production on our final year project, currently titled Skin Deep (working title). It's a romantic body horror short film about Aaron, a closeted gay teen, who is invited to his ex-boyfriend's pet funeral, and struggles to contain his emotions while dealing with a strange wound on his body.
We have been developing the project since July of this year, and our production is set to begin in February 2023.
Despite the repeal of Section 377a, LGBT rights are still under scrutiny by the general Singaporean public. Our film aims to explore the effects of discrimination on gay teens who are more often than not met with rejection or disgust, show a honest depiction of a gay relationship in Singapore, and depict a same-sex interracial relationship.
We felt that the horror genre would be a good avenue to explore the effects of discrimination, as horror films touch on cultural fears and serve as a time capsule of what is deemed terrifying. Body horror especially is a genre used to explore the relationship between humanity and our own bodies, a struggle that Aaron has to face in the film.
We are looking to raise around $3500 SGD for our short film, with these donations being used for:
- Casting talented actors to play our lead and featured roles.
- Production design to source for props and materials, alongside preparation for our wholly practical body horror effects.
- Source camera equipment to enhance the film's visual and story.
- Funding to find and rent locations to develop the world of our film.
With your grateful donations, we are happy to offer a private screening when the film is completed. Alongside that we will gladly put your name in our film's credits, thanking you for helping bring our film to life.
We truly hope you consider donating to our film. The film means a great deal for our crew, and we're dedicated to provide an authentic look for our final year project. We're excited to work on this and are even more excited to show it to the world!
