I am a single mother of three although my daughter, being the eldest of the three and having completed school in 2016, has recently moved out of home and become almost self-sufficient, having been blessed with a stable job.

My youngest, Ayanda, is a 6 year old HIV positive boy who I chose to foster in November of 2016 before falling into our current unforeseen difficulties.

In the middle is my son, Noah, who has just turned 16 and is doing Grade 10 at Dundee High School and making mom proud!

Noah’s father and I were never married and he left the country when Noah was two years old.Although Noah has seen his father twice since he left the country, he has been inconsistent in contact and assistance of any kind.

We have, however, been very blessed to have had my parents as a support system for us since Noah’s birth. In May 2015, my parents retired and emigrated to New Zealand to be with my sister and her family, having sold their business/ministry to myself and a business partner who had made them an offer for 65% of the business promising to continue to run the business/ministry as they had done for so many years.

Unfortunately, my business partner and I did not share the same views on children’s ministry. In my naivety, I decided to try and fight the situation legally but towards the end of 2016 realised that it would never end and it was taking its toll on my children and I as a family, our finances and the ministry that I cared so much about. As difficult as it was, I decided to be bought out of the family business and walk away.

I could not walk away from my calling however, and decided to start another business of the same nature. Avuke was started as Avuke School Hostel (Pty) Ltd and our fees were calculated to cover the very basic running costs of the hostel and caring for the children who board with is in order to remain affordable to the majority. As of January 2018 we became a Non-Profit Organisation as we were granted this status by the Department of Social Development on 23 August 2017.

Unfortunately, I incurred a lot of debt whilst getting Avuke up and running and keeping it afloat. Making the necessary lifestyle adjustments at home has also been very difficult but a great learning experience for both my boys and I. In hindsight, there are many things I would have done differently and God has taught me so much in the last 2 years… I’m almost sure more than the rest of my years put together! But I do believe that as I continue to implement what I have learnt in pushing forward with what I have started, it will be a success in time. I am hoping to get a fresh start through this campaign.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated in assisting in getting out of the personal debt I have incurred and with our general monthly living expenses. I would also welcome all prayers and appreciate them greatly!

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and should you require further information or want to know more about our Non-Profit Organisation which enables us to fulfill our calling to children’s ministry, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Stacey
