Singapore Management University -Community Service Project @ ChiangMai

We are a team of students from Singapore Management University (SMU), currently collaborating an Overseas Community Service Programme - Uni-Y SMU ISP Chiang Mai - with YMCA Singapore.

As we are living a comfortable life in Singapore, thousands of children in the outskirts of Chiang Mai are living a life of extreme poverty, and crucially lacking proper education. This should not be the case as every child deserves an equal chance in life to succeed.

Therefore, as Uni-Y SMU ISP Chiang Mai undertakes its 9th iteration this December, we follow up closely with the objectives that were set out in our previous installations, that is, to develop and empower youths to make impactful contributions to the local and international communities. Accordingly, we will be working with Ban Kad Wittayakom School, located in Ban Kad Village, Mae Wang Province, where we aim to do the following:

(i) Educate the village children conversational English and Chinese in hopes that in the long run, these language skills will come in handy when interacting with tourists in the course of running their family business.

(ii) Upgrade the school’s existing facilities by constructing an additional restroom in the student’s dormitory to improve hygiene standards.

(iii) Teach villagers how to make Homemade Cleaning Liquids from acidic fruits commonly found in and around the village to help save them the cost of purchasing store bought cleaning liquids.

Presently, the cost of the additional bathroom facility for the school is expected to be S$3,013. Separately, each participant’s estimated cost to partake in this project is approximately S$900. Every member on this team are purely volunteering out of goodwill and for a good cause, and we hope to have you onboard with us. Sponsorships in the form of cash will be incredibly helpful in defraying the aforementioned expenses. All sponsorship money will go to the Ban Kad Village in the Mae Wang district of Chiang Mai , as well as cover the project cost. We will be immensely grateful for your donation. This will be a chance for you to empower the children in Chiang Mai, and provide them an opportunity to live an equal life like many of us.
