In 2019 December I had the chance to meet Joseph Obed Bwire, a pastor in Uganda. Next to taking care of his own 7, Joseph and his wife decided that they are capable of more: they give shelter to the lost children of Namayingo town and fight every day to create a better future for them. The majorty of orphans are between the age of 3 to 10.
The people I encountered there left me speechless. Although they welcomed me as one of their future teachers, I soon had to admit: they gave me much more than I could ever plan to give. Despite their difficult situation, these children laugh, sing and dance. Their actions are honest. And they do something which we have forgotten for a long time: they pray. Not for themselves, but for each other. They pray with their own words, and they do it for you and for me.
On the last day of my journey I noticed that some of the older girls are interested in my earrings. I gave them what I had with me, and promised to send some more so every girl can have a pair. I really enjoyed how they never became jealous of each other. If there was less food, they shared, if there was only 5 earrings they accepted it and they were truly happy to see the joy on the other's face. Arriving home, I wanted to start fulfilling my promise but when Joseph heard my plan, he sent a short message: "Please do not send earrings. Send SHOES."
Oh, stupid european woman - I told myself...
"Their little feet needs protection. It is dangerous to go to the toilets barefoot, specially at nights" - Joseph added later. Then I remembered the giant cockroaches (hundreds of them!!) I saw at the "restrooms" of the Orphanage. They gather around sunset, and you can barely walk without stepping on one. Not to forget about other much more dangerous insects spreading all kinds of disease and having painful bites.
I kindly ask you to help me collect the amount so they can buy long lasting good quality shoes for 100 little angels. The money will go straight to Joseph and Joyce Bwire (Faith International Orphanage, Namayingo town, Busia, Uganda). The 850 $ is calculated for their local prices.
In case you are not in a position to send money, please share this project through social media!
