Hi,
I am trying to find help for my old landlord who is in a tight spot since Hurricane Sandy.  He and his elderly mother lived upstairs from us in a house in Manhattan beach, Brooklyn.  When the flood came in it knocked out the entire bottom level apartment (that me and my husband lived in).
The house is now unlivable.  The furnace broke as well as all the electrical shorted out.  His mother is currently being held in a nursing home because she has no home to go to.  Manhattan beach is known as a well off neighborhood, so little relief effort is being done there.  but my landlord and his mother are not well off.  Their house has been in the family for generations, and they had no flood insurance.
I am reaching out to people & organizations to see if they can donate either, time (to help install or fix the furnace, help as an electrician or help in construction) or products (such as maybe you have an old or returned furnace you could donate to help him, or old windows, or even an old entry door). or help finicially to start to rebuild his home.  Any help you can give would be appreciated.
My husband and I recently lost everything we own including a place to live in the flood.  We were overwhelmed with friends, family and our church who stepped up to help us, and we are on our way to setting up life again quickly.  When we look around and see people in the same spot as us, but without friends, family and a church to help pick them up, I have no idea how they pick themselves up.  Unfortunately my landlord is one of the people without any support and has no one to help him and his mother.  We as a church have set up volunteers to help him strip down the walls and clean up to help stop the mold growing, but his house won't be livable if he doesn't get a furnace and electrical problems fixed.
