Campaign Story
I am raising money to fund an important and life-changing trip to Ghana, where I will be working alongside a team of volunteers from the organisation 'Plan My Gap Year' (PMGY). I will be working as a medical assistant in a mental health hospital gaining insight into the psychiatric services that operate in Ghana. I will also be working within a community outreach programme that aims to educate local communities on mental illness and encourage those suffering to receive treatment and support. Mental illness is something that has unfortunately touched my family and so i am extremely passionate about playing a role in raising awareness. Changing the stereotypes surrounding mental illness is an incredibly important task and it is of personal importance to me to play a part in it.
The money raised will be put towards the flight cost to Ghana as well as the cost of the overall programme which includes the whole experience as well as accommodation.
As stated previously, I believe that the education and treatment of mental illness is extremely important and due to personal experience I feel deeply inclined to be involved as much as possible. I am currently studying Psychology BSc at Newcastle University and hope to go on to a career in clinical psychology where I can continue this goal. An experience such as this one would not only give me vital experience in the field of clinical psychology but also give extra help to the communities of Kumasi in achieving their goals concerning mental health awareness and treatment.
I am extremely grateful for those reading this page and to those considering funding me, any donations would be extremely appreciated. To help me get the word out you could share my link to your Facebook Timeline!
