About the Fundraiser:
The members of the Cal Judo Club are working very hard to establish UC Berkeley as a premier judo university in the United States. One that will garner international attention and produce athletes who will compete at the national level. In our effort to do this, we have been training very hard and competing and winning locally every month. But, for us to gain recognition nationally, we need to begin competing across the country.
We are putting extraordinary effort into our training and planning to bring home as many gold medals as we bring athletes. But, for us to accomplish this, we are in dire need of support. Even the smallest donation will push us closer to establishing Cal Judo as a national force. If you are able to contribute to our cause, please contribute.
About Judo:
Judo -- The Gentle Way -- is a Japanese martial art that is derived from the ancient art of Jiu-Jitsu. Its founder, Jigaro Kano, wanted to create an art form that removed the brutality and lethality that Jiu-Jitsu had and establish a sport in which any individual could participate. So, he developed judo as a sport that would teach its participants discipline, respect, and self confidence. He propelled the sport into the forefront of the international world and established it as an Olympic sport.
