My high poverty public school 6-12th grade students have a lot to say. Unfortunately, with heavy class loads and no stipends for sponsoring the newspaper and media outlets, I have to work a second job to pay for my own children's college tuition. By the end of the week of teaching and working my second job, I don't have the energy and time it takes to volunteer to create these media publications. Instead of a monthly newspaper and weekly broacast website, we create one newspaper every three months.
If I could earn an additional $1000 per month, I could dedicate all of my time and energy to helping my public school students create and update our English and Spanish newspaper and websites on a more timely basis. I believe that if I could earn the extra money needed to pay for my biological children's tuition without needing to work a second job, then all of my energy could be used for helping my students be ready for college and post-secondary training. I am passionate about helping students. But I only have so much energy.
