Saving The Senior Rotti

Update posted by Rugaz Rescue Inc On Apr 02, 2018

After a very long intensive week of medical care, despite all our efforts Riggs was ready to see the rainbow bridge. His foster mom saw him through the entire process, and he passed in her arms.

We would like to bring Riggs home to not only her, but to the transport team that were all so near and dear to him making it possible for his last time here on earth to be loved and adored and revive the best medical care while with Rugaz Rescue Inc.

The total cost of saying goodbye and saving his ashes returned is $445, this is including his urn and the smaller urns for the transport team.

We would love to spread some of his ashes in the many different places he didn't get to visit like the beach, the park etc and plant a tree in a bio urn for him.

Thank you everyone for donating and helping towards his extensive medical to give him a pain free happy time left on this earth, and we appreciate every effort and donation to bring him back home where he belongs.

You can donate now online to his fund here:

Or donations can also be made directly to our Veterinarian office at:

Animal Hospital of Regency Park in New Port Richey, FL 34653 (727)848-6247

Without you, we wouldn't be able to help them!

A Very Heartbreaking PupDate on Rugaz Rescue Inc. Chandler "Riggs"..

We think the note his foster mom wrote says it all:

"I held your dog today while he passed...

He passed away from a combination of extreme infection (From all the wounds he caused himself trying to get free from where you placed him captive on that fence) and a medical condition, lymphedema that could have been managed if he received medical care in the time you had him.

Did you know your dog had this disease and is that why you tied him up and left him to die?

Your dog gave me kisses, held my hand, slept in my lap, ate out of a syringe, got to eat better then ears blended down. He had wind in his fur during car rides, and he got to meet some pretty amazing people that fully supported him knowing he may not make it...

Your dog,you abandoned became my dog. Became a Rugaz Rescue Inc. dog. He became a dog that belonged to the community's hearts. Your dog was so loved by so many, and he fought like hell to stay on this earth with me, with everyone he touched, and everyone he didn't touch. Despite all you did to him, he still wanted and knew love.

Your dog had more humanity then you will ever have. Our main focus was fighting for Riggs life in the beginning. To bring awareness that this is happening in our own communities. To make sure whatever out come Riggs knew he had a family, and was loved and adored.

Now Rugaz Rescue Inc. focus is on getting Rigg's information and photo's out there to see if we can find the person responsible for Rigg's passing. We need people to be aware this is happening in our backyards... Someone know's something...

To say I'm devastated or angry doesn't quite speak the words I truly feel. I just hope Riggs knew how much I personally loved him, and I told him day after day how much this whole community loved him and were pushing for his recovery... He was a dog that forgave, and loved despite all that was done to him.

If humans could learn just a touch of the humanity, forgiveness and love a dog like Riggs has for human kind, this world would be so much different.

#JusticeForRugazRescueRiggs

We tried like hell Riggs, and you fought an amazing fight. You shouldn't have lived to fight this long and everyday was a miracle..

I am so so very lucky to have known you, your love, your kisses, your knubby tail wags...

You were tired, and your body couldn't fight anymore despite everything we were doing. I understand, I don't want to believe it, but I understand you had to move on.

Till we meet again Riggs, I will never stop fighting for you and justice for you all."

Prayers For Riggs!

Riggs has taken a turn for the worse today. He has been in intensive care at Animal Hospital of Regency Park in New Port Richey, FL sense this morning and it is not looking positive.

Bloodwork, Urine, Multiple Xrays, Ultrasound and more test have all been done today to try to narrow down the cause of Riggs body going into shutting down today...

We need prayers and positive thoughts from our community.

Someone left Riggs tied to a fence to die alone, he knows he is not alone now no matter what happens.

Pray for Riggs and the entire Rugaz Rescue Inc. as they continue to fight for Riggs life today.

God Bless and save you! My heart aches!

This Easter Weekend, Fox 13 Tampa Bay has run Riggs story daily to help get exposure for his case, and we cannot thank them enough!

Riggs is still holding on strong and fighting to be here with us, and we are right here fighting just as far and letting him know he has so many people who love and support him that haven't even met him yet!

The swelling has not gone down enough in his face to open his eyes comfortably so we are hoping Monday will be the day we can see the extent of damage and our surgical plan as long as he continues to make small steps in the right direction!

You can make an online donation to his fund here at this link:

As he settles into his medical foster home, they are setting up a routine to spend some time in the mornings as the sun rises to get some fresh air while his wounds and eyes are being flushed.

This morning... He lifted his head and held it high! This is the first time in 3 days he has had the strength to stay up for any length of time!

The swelling around his face has dropped 1/4th of an inch all around, and the neck swelling is still the same, but we are making progress. Small, but mighty progress!

Riggs will to fight and live is one of the strongest we have ever seen. Today he started wagging his little nubby tail every time he hears his foster mom. He know's he's safe and that we are all fighting with him.

As long as he continues to make these little progressions into the better he will have another large full panel of bloodwork this Friday and we are hoping swelling may be down enough to be able to examine his eyes fully but we're not sure if it will be. We're trying to be very hopeful!

It is a daily struggle and battle to keep Riggs strong, but we are all in this fight together! Because of you helping us fight for him it is possible!

ANY and ALL donations are appreciated. Nothing is too small! Donations can also be made directly to our Veterinarian office at:

Our Chandler Riggs has made it into day #2...

His swelling in his face and neck has doubled in size, as we suspected would be happening as the antibiotics take effect. He's on good pain management regiment, along with extreme antibiotic and fluid therapy.

He is having his entire face and neck compressed and cleaned every hour, along with his eyes flushed every two due to the intense amount of swelling and pressure build up making it impossible for him to blink or open his eyes. He is being syringe fed every 4 hours, and his appetite is staying high so that is a very positive note!

The next 48 hours are critical while the antibiotics take hold and start fighting in his system as hard as we are all fighting for him. He is in his medical foster home where he is most comfortable resting and being able to hold her hand as much as he wants. His foster mom says putting his head on her and holding her hand is all he wants to do, and then he snuggles and falls right asleep so calmly and peacefully and that's what he needs right now.

He is going to have daily re-checks for swelling increase, and blood levels so it's going to be touch and go pretty much this entire week. However, The Dr's and medical team are very hopeful for his recovery, although it be long and hard he is a fighter and is fighting to stay with us. It is a miracle he is still here on this earth with us, and we know it's so we could have the time to find him and help him on this recovery journey.

There is a beautiful golden years ahead for this amazing boy, and we are fighting with everything we have to give it to him.

We need your help to continue fighting for him... Every dollar add's up and makes the life difference to Riggs!

Our current medical is approx $2000 - but we will be adding updated medical esitmates and invoices as our Re-checks go and for the possible upcoming surgery on his eye's to help relieve the pain of the untreated KCS and Entropion.

Chandler Riggs Medical Pup-Date:

Riggs bloodwork has come back and it's not good... He's extremely anemic, due to the severe flea and hookworm infections that we are trying to get under control currently. The blood he does have, the white cell count is off the charts due to the pure mass amount of infection raging through his body.

Riggs has an uncountable amount of lacerations all along his face and neck suspected to be caused by trying to free himself from the fence he was attached too. This has caused his entire face to swell so much that he cannot open his mouth wide enough to eat. So we are currently blending and syringe feeding him wet high calorie food.

Both of Riggs eyes are extremely infected and both have ulcerations on the corneas. We believe him to be blind in his right eye, but simply due to the extreme swelling we are unable to comfortably open his eyes to see the full extent of damage. Once the swelling and infection has gone down a bit in his face we will be able to fully exam the entire extent of damage and make a plan on how to help his eyes.

Riggs is not able to move more then a few feet at a time, and not able to get up/down on his own without assistance. We believe some of this to be simply due to the lack of energy from the anemia, but he does also have hip dysplasia. We are unable to manipulate his hips comfortably to be able to see the full extent comfortably, so as with his eyes once we get some of the swelling down and some energy back on board with him as his blood levels increase we will be able to make a muscle work plan, but for now he is on pain management and the medical team are using gurney and slings to get him in and out comfortably as he is also very housebroken.

We are currently hitting Chandler Riggs hard with fluid therapy, parasite control, antibiotics, pain management with lots and lots of positive healing vibes as this is a fight to keep Riggs body as strong as his will is to live...

Riggs was left tied to a fence in the middle of no where to die a horrible death by a human, yet he welcomes humans with open arms and heart... He loves to hold his foster mom's hand and give the sweetest of kisses. After everything Riggs has been through, he still wants to be right by humans side... If humans could learn an ounce of the forgiveness and compassion dogs have, this world would be a much different place.

Riggs needs our help to keep him fighting. He deserves nothing less then our full support and help to give him the chance at having an amazing healthy golden years. After everything he has been through, we need your help to give him this chance.

Can you help us fight for Chandler Riggs life?

Madelyn, As the update states he is currently fighting for his life, so there is no answer on if he’ll honestly make it or not. We are fighting for him as hard as he is. If someone is interested in adopting him after his complete recovery in a few months they can go to our website to fill out an adoption application once he’s released, we look forward to that!
