Saving Baby Sea Turtles

Your donations will directly help the future of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles.

Our Mission - help more baby Olive Ridley turtles hatch and healthily release them to the ocean to eventually increase their population as they are an at-risk species.
As well as help educate the local community to preserve this vulnerable species for future generations collectively.

The Sayulita Turtle Camp has rescued over 400 nests this season (a record!) and helped release approximately 50,000 baby turtles.

The camp receives no government funding and is entirely run by volunteers.

ANY donations will help towards the following - and will be received with eternal gratitude.

A New Camp - Our humble camp is 8 years old, and we need to raise money to build a new camp to help shelter more nests and incubate the eggs in the best incubation method possible.
Cost $7000 USD. Target to build the camp in Spring 2021.

Our volunteer lead biologist Alejandra wants to take more local kids to week-long community turtle education programs in Mazatlán. She's keen on building out this program to help ensure that future generations are best educated about protecting turtles and helping them thrive, reducing poaching, turtles caught in fishing nets, and plastic pollution.
Cost $125 per attendee $1000 USD. Each year (throughout 2021)

We're also hoping to employ 2 trainee biologists to help throughout the season.
$5600 USD. (From 2021 turtle season June - January)

To help us achieve our goal, you can also sponsor a nest (an ideal gift! contact us for more information.) for $25USD.

Anything we achieve over our target will enable us to construct another (much-needed) camp nearby or support another turtle related cause.

We're also looking for volunteers to help with the following:-
Patrolling at sunrise to help find turtle nests.
Giving talks to camp visitors and helping with turtle releases.
No specific experience is essential, but if you have any relevant background, this will be a much-appreciated bonus too!
A web-designer to kindly help us build a website.

Facts about Olive Ridley Turtles
A vulnerable species, their numbers have halved in recent years and are in constant decline.
Less than 1% make it to adulthood = 13 years.
Poachers, fishing nets, plastic pollution causes unnecessary turtle deaths.
They can live to over 100 years old.
Turtles can return to where they were born (using the earth's magnetic fields) to lay eggs up to 3 times a season and up to 140 eggs in each nest.
The incubation process is 45 days.
They grow 1 tooth to help them leave their shell; then the tooth falls out after the shell is broken.
