Afrin is a district as well as a city in the North of Syria, and has become part of self-autonomous rule since its establishment in 2012. The region’s population was nearly 500,000 before 2011, it is comprised of many towns and circa 380 villages. The area was considered as a safe haven for IDPs from many areas all over Syria and the current unconfirmed number of the civilians is around 800,000 people including IDPs.

Efrîn, through the partnership of all ethnic and religious groups, had begun to lay the foundations of lasting peace, with a democratic self-governance.

Since the 20th of January Afrin is under attack: the Turkish state as well as some islamist groups have started a military operation of heavy bombing on behalf of Turkish warplanes targeting military installations and civil compounds in Efrîn.

Major attacks take place near the border with Turkey, originating from Turkey’s soil, which are targeting the Northern, Eastern and Western areas of Efrîn region, causing massive displacement within the region and many civillian casualties accordıng to UN. The Turkish military attack does not only target Efrin, but they also target the Kobanê and Cizîrê cantons.

Heyva Sor a Kurd (the Kurdish Red Crescent) is aiming to organise aid and support for the people of Efrîn. During this critical situations our institution is the only organisation providing humanitarian aid in Efrîn.

Due to the bombardments, humanitarian vialations of civillians and displacements the area is facing a humanitarian crisis and disaster. More than 100 people died, over 200 people were wounded. The losses increase daily as most of the wounded 's situations are in critical conditions.

People are trapped under the rubble of buildings targeted by the turkish air strikes, and KRC (Kurdish Red Crescent) is working to evacuate them.

At the moment we are aiding the civilians who suffered the bombardment of invading Turkish war planes and artilleries. We are transferring the wounded civilians from the war zone to available hospitals and medical centres.

WE ARE ALONE DEALING WITH THIS HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY.

One of our ambulances has been lost in the struggle as it was targeted by the bombardment.

Urgent humanitarian needs:

• Medical drugs, emergency drugs and medical supplies for ambulances,
• Ambulances,
• Food supplies,
• Winter clothes,
• Dairy products for babies and children.
• Blood Bags - Lack of blood supply, first aid kits, surgery related items.
• Drinking water, since turkey air strike targeted many times the pumps in the sources of the water) Food Baskets.
• Blankets, mattresses and floor mats as its essential basic shelter Items and winter clothes since people leave their houses on short notice and most of the time they dont have time to carry anything with them.

We urgently need funds to get the first aid and medical equipment and materials.

As the Italian branch of the Kurdish Red Crescent we are raising the funds to be delivered in Afrin.

Heyva Sor a Kurd (the Kurdish red crescent) is aiming to organise aid and support for people of Efrîn. Under the actual urgent situation, the only organisation providing humanitarian aid in Efrîn is our institution.

Heyva Sor a Kurd is a Kurdish institution carrying out humanitarian aid activities in light of universal values and principles with the aim of providing help to anyone who suffers war, disaster and poverty. Regardless of their ethnicity, religion and political preferences.
