Following the recent news regarding the Friends' Hospice's imminent closure, I have started this fundraiser to support the hospice in the hopes that one day soon they can reopen stronger than ever.

Since the hospice opened its doors in 2006 it has cared for over 2,000 patients of all nationalities, free of charge.

Due to the pandemic and related restrictions, the hospice had to close its five charity shops which were its main source of income, and during lockdown received formal notice to vacate the dedicated wing of St. George's clinic. They have exhausted all options for a possible relocation. None of the alternative venues explored by the hospice have been accepted by the Ministry of Health due to new EU regulations.

It costs around 240,000 euros per year just to run the hospice, let alone relocate. And so, the Friends' Hospice Paphos recently announced they are closing at the end of June.

However there is hope. A local philanthropic family has offered a large house to the hospice, which will require considerable structural changes. Specifically, I have been told some of the changes required include a lift, 6 bathrooms changed into wet rooms, and doors widened.

10 years ago my Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and during his final days the Friends' Hospice cared for him as if he were family, giving my Mum much needed relief during what was the most difficult time in our lives. Our community needs them, and I can't imagine what thousands of families like mine would have gone through without their support. They provided comfort not only to the patients themselves, but their loved ones as well.

Please donate what you can, even 5 euros! No amount is too great or small for such a worthy cause. And if all you can do is share, then that is greatly appreciated as well.
