Yes .... you always think it will never happen to me,,,,

It did

And this is how

I have a genetic health issue which flares up occasionally and then I have to spend time in hospital while chronic medications are adjusted and sometimes new ones tried

My husband had recently passed away from glioblastoma brain cancer and so I lived alone

An acquaintance offered to get her son 50 something to come and look after my house and animals so I could be admitted for treatment and only took my medical card

Hospital policy no cellphones so I-sent mine back with this chap after I was admitted and not thinking I gave him the cellphones pin when he asked so that he could charge it and take my calls from my close friends and only my daughter who lives in Cape Town 1340 km away from me

This PIN code was my universal pin code for everything I do !!!

My purse was left at home with my bank cards, ID, drivers license etc for safekeeping in my bedside drawer instead of at the hospital

It is fair to say here that I am nearly 64 years old with a monthly pension of R5500 per month. I also qualify for a state pension of R1890 . I have always been a good payer throughout my life and therefore have a high credit rating. However with this very small pension I have to count my pennies to survive and cannot make debt even with so much credit available to me

I use cards for convenience instead of carrying cash to pay for my needs but pay them in full each month end

So 12 days later I was discharged.

  • On my return home I needed to buy more animal food, bread, milk and a few other items from the supermarket. He gave me my house keys, I thanked him profusely and he left.

THEN…..

at the checkout till my Absa credit card was declined?????

Credit Limit available R 110 000.00

Zero purchases and nil balance to begin with ?????

Tried Absa debit card rejected insufficient funds

Tried Woolworths Gold card rejected

Credit Available limit R37700

I had spent R 2760 on it only

By now I was extremely embarrassed There was a queue of people behind me!!!!

I apologized to the cashier and said I would have to leave my purchases and was going straight to the bank as something was TERRIBLY WRONG

AT THE BANK

My ID document was not in my purse ?

THEN I knew exactly who was responsible

My drivers license was accepted as identification plus my 2 thumb prints

As the bank printed out statements of all my accounts total fear began to grip me as the transactions of purchases and cash withdrawals unfolded….

cash withdrawals each and every day to the daily limits of each account for 12 days on EVERY account

WHAT HAD TRANSPIRED

The first ATM transaction was a small cash withdrawal of R250 on Woolworths credit card to view available funds

This was done on each and every bank card

YES

With my cellphone pin code and he hit pay dirt !!!!! And yes all my bank cards were the same pin code I had recently changed them because it became difficult to remember all the different pin codes - we are given cards for everything these days and my memory was becoming poorly

Stupidity in hindsight

As well as what this woman had OMITTED to tell me that HER SON he was unemployed, a drug addict and a conman for more than 10 years besides being a VERY intelligent opportunist

He LOOKED so decent was well dressed and well spoken,,,,,

Yes I made a case against him

Yes I consulted an attorney who after running up a bill of R47100 finally told me “you can’t get blood from a stone”

Really, it took R 47100 of my money you know I don’t have to finally tell me that ?

My apologies this is a long story so let’s get to the BOTTOM LINE

Please feel free to to email me if you have any questions at all

It’s a lot of help I’m asking for I realize that fully and please know I will be grateful for any AMOUNT and I mean any help and assistance at all

If you don’t know there are NO ways to get frauded money back even from the perpetrator of this heinous crime

The attorney and police could no find any money in financial institutions, anywhere in his name !!!

I am close to homelessness

I have put my pride in my pocket to share this very dysfunctional but TRUE STORY

There are a lot more details but I hope I’ve shared enough

God Bless

Thank you

Lynne
