Introduction

This crowdfunding page was created for Sarah Davy & Christopher Rider in the hopes to fulfil their one wish of getting married in Ӧlüdeniz, Turkey. It would mean the world to them if they could finally achieve their dream after the pain and suffering they’ve had to endure over the past few years. Cancer takes no prisoners and you never really understand the turmoil it can leave in its wake until the ones you love are the ones fighting for their lives. And that is why we (their family) have set this page up for them; we want them to have their dream wedding no matter the outcome of this fight and we would be forever grateful if you could help us achieve that dream too. All donations will be extremely appreciated, no matter how big or small, and will help us make this dream a reality.

Our Story

Back in April 2016, Chris was in pain with his stomach and after months of hospital appointments and admissions he finally got diagnosed in November 2016 with a rare form of testicular cancer on his lymph nodes. Hearing that he had cancer was a huge blow to our family. You hear of and see so many people fighting with this life-changing disease but you never believe it’ll happen to a member of your family and nothing can prepare you for how heart-wrenching it feels. Chris, being only 38 when he was diagnosed, with a young 9 month old daughter, it felt like it was extremely unfair. But cancer doesn’t care who it affects; it can be anybody, he started his treatment "Chemotherapy" straight away, this lasted for three months, which meant ten months of work, scans showed that the tumour had shrunk and he was monitored for the next few months, within this time Chris had started a new job and was getting his life back together, a routine scan in August 2017 had showed that the cancer had spread to another lymph node, such devastating news for the family, he starts treatment on a yet more powerful type of Chemotherapy, which led to him becoming gravely ill, this treatment continued for a further three months, another scan was booked after six weeks later, but after only two weeks Chris was back in pain, the scan showed the cancer had come back, and was now classed as a fast progressive cancer, a new type of treatment was available, called Stem Cell and a place had become available, Chris started this treatment straight away and was given a further nine weeks of Chemotherapy and then he had his stem cells harvested, after which Chris started a more intense course of treatment, where he was given chemotherapy for 72 hours with no break, after a week his stem cells were transplanted back into his body with the hope that they would enable him to recover quickly. After a few weeks of recovering Chris had been admitted to go through the same treatment again, with the hope that this will kill off any cancer cells, which will then allow the consultants to remove both of the tumours and hopefully allow Chris to be cancer free.

During all of this treatment Chris has been registered as disabled which was due to the effects of the treatment with Sarah now being his full time carer, his daughter Maisie is 2.5 years old and has had to see things that no toddler should ever go through.

We booked the wedding when Chris was in remission and had started back to work, but he hasn't worked for over a year now and they are struggling to get by on a small amount of benefits, We don't yet know if this treatment has been successful (we pray that it has).

Our wish no matter what the outcome is for them to be married, they become engaged in 2013, Maisie was born in 2015, cancer become part of our lives in 2016 and we are praying for them to get married in 2019.
