On 17 February 2019 a torrential wind and rain storm rain lifted and destroyed the roof of Chi’s Family home.

If you have been trekked with Sapa Sisters, you may have visited Chi’s family in their welcoming home up the mountain. You may have stayed overnight or just stopped there for lunch.

For you who don’t know: Chi and her family live in Su Pan, a small village up in the mountains of northern Vietnam. She is from the H’Mong minority group, and she is one of the founding members of Sapa Sisters, a trekking company owned by local women around Sapa (Lao Cai / Vietnam). Chi came from an extremely poor family and never had a chance to go to school, but her commitment to her work, and belief that the future can be brighter for her children she has created a good life for her family.

For many years Chi has put almost all her savings into purchasing land and building this house. In addition to being her family home it is also a Homestay (Guest house) in a traditional H’Mong style - very beautiful in its simplicity. Normally Chi and her husband Penh welcome guests to stay with their family but the storms destruction has left them without a roof over their head. Fortunately, no one was injured but the house is no longer livable, and they can no longer run their guesthouse.

We have created this fundraising to help Chi purchase building materials for new roof and walls, beddings and mattresses for the guesthouse, and to cover the cost of a building team to quickly help them get back their home again. Chi estimate’s the cost to be about 5000USD (+fee for PayPal and GoGetFunding).

In differences to many other families in this area neither Chi or Penh drinks or gamble. It’s a loving family. If you have any possibility, please help Chi rebuild her house!

Thank you!
