Campaign Story
On the 28th April 2019, Safura Ismail, daughter, sister, wife and mother was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia).
Since then she has had three extensive chemotherapy sessions. Her health took a downward
spiral, she has lost her appetite lost her hair but she never lost her spirit. Until now!!
After searching for a bone marrow match, none of her siblings and family was a100% match to her.
To our delight there is an option on the South African Bone Marrow Registry. But our delight
was short lived; the medical aid will not cover the cost of the bone marrow procedure as these
matches are not related to her.
The cost calculated by the Pretoria East Hospital is at R1.5 million. Her family are working
class people and we do not have these funds available to us. The team of doctors have given
us limited time to raise these funds. Safura has only three maintenance chemotherapy sessions
left, thereafter her condition becomes fatal.
We have a mammoth task ahead of us to raise this amount, all so that a sister can live longer,
a husband can keep his life partner as his strength and a seven year old boy can have his
mother by his side.
This is a heartfelt, sincere request to anyone who can and would like to contribute towards
this exuberant amount in helping to save the life of our sister Safura.
