Safe car for family with newborn!

Hi, we are desperately trying to get together whatever funds we can to buy a small, second hand but SAFE family car before our new baby arrives (due early March). My husband and I have always been hardworkers but since we found out we were lucky enough to be expecting again, his work has dried up (self employed) and I am part-time while my toddler is still tiny. The problem is that whatever money comes in goes straight out on rent,bills etc and we are struggling to save for a much needed new car in time for the new baby. Ive had the same Peugeot 106 for 11 years since I was 18 which now has numerous problems - the biggest a huge leak and if it rains, not only does the floor flood but my toddler gets wet in the back! It is bad enough having to take him in it, I'm dreading taking a newborn in it too! Thanks for reading.
