My name is Kyle Barnes. This summer I hope to travel to Rwanda and to serve as a volunteer in one of several orphanages. I would really appreciate whatever support you can give to make this possible.
Through the Global Volunteer Network, I would be stationed either in Kigali or Gisenyi. I could be asked to do anything from feeding and routine childcare to life skills teaching. The video above provides a glimpse of the Noel de Nyundo Orphanage in the Rubavu District (Gisenyi). The 1994 genocide and the HIV/AIDS epidemic have taken a psychological and physical toll especially on the young people of Rwanda. I have led a privileged life and look at my trip to Rwanda as an opportunity both to learn and to give back in whatever small way I can.
I am a History major and Holocaust and Genocidal Studies minor at The College of New Jersey. I hope to join the Peace Corps upon graduation, with the end goal of pursuing a career in International Aid. Please help me to understand Rwanda from a first-hand perspective, while giving me the chance to volunteer in the care of these kids who so desperately need our help. Any donations are appreciated. Help humanism become reality.
