Run or DYE for Leah’s Wish

  Please please help donate for Leah's Wish We are asking for help to raise as much money and also awarness for Leah's Wish. Leah's wish was to help as many people as she could and the charity supports 4 charities : Melanie's ward John Radcliffe Hospital  Childrens ward John Radcliffe Hospital Harefield Hospital Helen & Douglas House  CF Please read below for Leah's story and why we want to raise as much as we can  taken from http://www.leahswish.co.uk/  "On the 28th of September 1996 a beautiful baby girl was born, Leah Dionne Graham. Unfortunately though Leah's journey wasn't going to be plain sailing. She had all odds stacked against her since birth, finally being diagnosed with the genetic disease Cystic Fibrosis four months on. On a few times during this duration they were told the next 24 hours were vital and they weren't sure Leah would pull through. However from her young age her strength and courage shone through and she began her fight for life. Although Leah had cystic fibrosis she did not let this determine her as a person, trying to be just a normal girl in between all her hospital stays and treatments. If you ever saw Lea you'd have never thought what daily challenges she faced. She lived life to the fullest and always carried a beautiful smile on her face. On her 17th birthday, the 28th of September 2013, Leah was still in hospital (this was approaching nearly a 7 week stay). Leah was due to come home that day and evening to celebrate with family and friends at her surprise party, however things took a bad turn resulting in the Dr's decision that she was too ill too leave. That didn't dampen her spirits and her family and friends brought the party to her. On Wednesday the 2nd of October 2013 even more sinister events lay ahead. That morning, struggling to breath and coughing up alarming amounts of blood, Leah was rushed down to the High Dependency Unit and then within the week she was to be transferred to The Harefield hospital. However Leah was deteriorating and she was transferred to Harefield hospital that same day. On the Thursday Leah went down to theatre. By the Friday she had been another three times due to complications. These complications caused swelling to her brain, causing her to endure numerous amount of seizures which resulted in scans showing she had brain damage. She was fitted to an Ecmo machine and put on life support. When the Ecmo machine was fitted it was then that the real extent of damage to Leah's lungs were made known. The doctor himself said if she hadn't been transferred when she was then by that weekend she would have died. Although Leah was sedated when she came to, now and again she had her cheeky attitude with her and was still smiling. Leah also had many blood transfusions throughout her time at the Harefield. It had reached the point now where Leah needed a transplant and soon. She was placed on the top of the list and awaited her 'new lungs' however she had also got to the point where she was too ill. Still they didn't give up and lungs became available - she went down to theatre. Due to the donors lungs being very large compared to Leah's tiny body, they performed a lobule transplant instead and cut the lungs down. There were many complications throughout this transplant and Leah had a massive bleed. 13 hours later and out of theatre, things were looking bleak but they weren't giving up, nor was Leah's fighting spirit. However it was soon made aware that her new lungs weren't functioning properly. By this point both her kidneys and liver were also failing. They performed an ecko on Leah's heart 4 times with it coming back with the same result each time. The valve in her heart was split. So not only were her new lungs not working, her kidneys and liver failing but also her heart too. Leah's poor little body had endured so many procedures, blood transfusions, seizures and infections. Although when she kept coming to through the sedation may I add, Leah was STILL SMILING. On the Wednesday, Leah's family were informed of the decision made, to let Leah fall asleep peacefully on the Thursday. So Thursday the 31st of October our brave fighter, our inspiration, our beautiful pink princess gained her beautiful angels wings.
