My name is Rumbi and I am a female living in South-Africa. I have always enjoyed listening to good music. My journey with sound began with a simple decision to volunteer in my local church. I wanted to try out something new and this could not have been more foreign to any of my natural abilities/talents. When I joined, I had no previous experience with sound, yet I was ready and willing to learn.
Over my years of serving, I have grown more passionate about sound that it has become something I genuinely enjoy and would like to become a professional at. I believe the opportunities in the industry are vast and the goal is to become a renowned female live sound engineer and break boundaries in a generally male-dominant industry.
The journey has certainly been challenging over the years and continues to stretch me and push me out of my comfort zone. I have much to learn still and I am seeking assistance in raising tuition to study Live Sound with an institute in Canada. As a creative degree that is not easy to source a scholarship for and that is only offered full time, I would need to transition from being an employee to being a student where i will be relocating to Canada for the duration of the studies.
My expenses include the full tuition costing R240000, accommodation and upkeep for my stay in Canada.
I would really appreciate the help in getting this jump start to my career in the industry. I believe Africa has so much talent and my desire is to return to my home country upon completion of my studies to use the attained skills for the benefit of the media industry here in South-Africa. I would also like to pay it forward by mentoring other young females and encourage young females to pursue a career in sound engineering as well. I look forward to sharing the journey with you all.
