Campaign Story
It is with deep sadness I am putting together this campaign for my best friend Keri, in hopes of inspiring some financial support for her and her three children following the loss of her Husband, Rui (Roy) Pimentel.
On February 20, 2024, the Pimentel Family lost their Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew and friend, Roy Pimentel, at the young age of 46 years old.
Roy was a beloved father of 3 and husband to Keri for 20 years.
For the past 27 years, Roy and Keri built a life together and welcomed their 3 children into it.. It was the greatest years of their lives, travelling, working hard, buying a home, getting married and having babies. But slowly their world transformed into their greatest challenge with the decline in Roy's health. Unfortunately, this permanently withdrew Roy from the work force, but good days or bad, it allowed for him to be an attentive, dutiful and loving father and husband.
In spite of it all, Roy still contributed in so many ways. He committed to various volunteer positions including the kids school field trips, coaching the kids sports teams, and was the most reliable hockey dad at the rink....and the happiest when they won!
Roy spent countless hours assisting with carpool pick ups, drop offs, for sports, sleepovers and everything in between.
His love for sports became a passion as his children grew up, giving Roy incentive and motivation each day, and more recently, Roy was teaching his daughter to drive, allowing them to share some precious father/daughter time together.
One of the last times I saw Roy was during my sons hockey try outs, he told Douglas to try out for the highest level of hockey without doubt, even if you don't think you can make it, just try because you never know. He said don't give up and keep working hard.
It's evident his words of encouragement was spread far and wide given the outpouring of love and support from so many other hockey families.
He has left behind his loving family that is picking up pieces of their broken hearts and trying to navigate through this process.
The worry and financial burden of taking the time off to arrange Roy's funeral service in addition to Keri's sole responsibility in maintaining their family home and supporting their kids through this is something many of us could relate to. I am kindly requesting for you to consider a monetary gift in support of Keri and the kids during this time. Anything remaining will be transferred into the kids savings account.
I whole heartedly Thank-you in advance for taking the time to read my story about Roy. <3
Sincerely,
Miki-Rae Hanslip
