I am Douglas Mounde from Kisii County here in Kenya. I am a co-founder of a registered youth and women community based organization called Rigena Community Based Organization with registration number DSS/KCD/IKU/CBO/0001/2023 in the republic of Kenya under the Community Group Registration act (No. 30 of 2022).

I have been an environmental activist and a volunteer in one of the biggest organization in the world that fights climate since 2015 before returning to my community to help people learn about climate change and its mitigation measure. During then and now I am actively involved in tree planting exercises in Kenya. Our CBO through preparing a TREES NURSERY BED encourage many farmers to plant medicinal and fruits trees like avocadoes, guavas, passion fruits, moringa, oranges and many others. These trees help offset the effects of carbon dioxide pollution as they need carbon dioxide to survive. Eventually, we will eat fruits from them and breathe oxygen that they release. Also we have a vision to plant more indigenous trees along river banks on individual lands and public places like schools and hospitals. The reason why we will do his is to restore permanent rivers that are slowly drying up. Water from the rivers will be used in homes for cooking and doing irrigation.

Through this project, other reason is to eradicate poverty and work towards sustainability amongst the community members and the surrounding where women and youths are going to be highly involved. One of the ways we are able to do this is with the farm and MORINGA TREES will be given the higher priority because it is a medicinal tree that can cure diseases that may have been caused by environmental pollutions. The farm implements the principles of permaculture and we cycle local nutrients into our foods organically. Surplus harvests that will be produced from fruits trees like avocadoes, oranges, guavas, papayas etc will be sold and this will ultimately create sustainability in the community. The project timeline is supposed to be 18 months.
