Dogs' Refuge Home Street Appeal
Join our online street appeal!
Our green team have hit the train stations, bus ports and streets in the City of Durban on the first Friday in May for more than 10 years. But this year, the streets will be quiet and our volunteers will be safely at home. So we're taking our annual street appeal online and asking you to please give us a contact-free donation this year to help our rescue dogs.
We still need your support ...
The Dogs’ Refuge Home was opened in October 1935. It is one of the oldest animal welfare organisation’s in Durban. Now, 85 years on, the Home is still saving more than 1000 dogs in need every year.
This year is set to be one of our busiest times in 25 years - we have already found homes for over 1150 dogs since 1 July 2019 and are on track to help over 1400 homeless hounds find new homes by 30 June. Since COVID-19 hit our shores, adoption rates have soared - as have calls for help, with more people than ever wanting to give up their beloved pooches.
We'll keep saving unwanted dogs if you keep helping ...
We rely on the generosity of the dog loving community to keep our gates and kennels open - approx. 50% of our annual income is dependent on fundraising. We're pushing on, staying open and adapting our processes so we can keep saving dogs who are left without a home. In March our amazing staff and volunteers helped over 160 dogs find new homes! Sadly our biggest month in forever!
Please donate to our dogs today
We're hoping to raise a big total shaking our tins online today. We've had to cancel three big fundraising events already so this year, your donation - no matter how big or small - means more than ever.
And we're still bringing puppies to the city!
It's a tradition for us to bring puppies into the city at lunchtime during our street appeal - but this year we're going online with the cutiest puppy compilation ever - and all rescue dogs.
