Covid-19 Medical Support in Tajikistan

My home country Tajikistan has reported first official COVID19 cases only on April 30th. However, the hospitals have been filling to capacity and people dying from atypical pneumonia and other related deaths. This pandemic has been spreading invisibly. Doctors, nurses and other medical personnel have been working tirelessly without enough protection and many have fallen ill already. A group of concerned citizens have organized a committee responding to the needs of medical personnel and hospitals in providing protective gear, as well as the doctors and nurses that have fallen ill and are currently under treatment.

Hospitals are not ready or do not have enough capacity to address all the needs (from relative's personal experience), the support provided by the Global Community is not enough or has not reached all the frontline medical workers. The news coming from Tajikistan are very sad about the potential impact on the medical workers and the people they can/can't treat. Protective gear is expensive ($30-$50 per piece), without it they will have to buy it from their own funds. The nurses and other personnel may receive only this much in monthly salary. If we lose the existing doctors and medical personnel to COVID19, we won't have anyone to treat people. These heroes putting their lives at risk should be protected and safe.

This page is set to support the local civil society initiatives working to support the hospitals in dire needs of protective gear, sanitizers, food for the ill etc. The funding they are collecting in Tajikistan has been enough to purchase only protective costumes and glasses and has run out. The aim is to provide them as much support as possible throughout the crisis, because anything provided to them will not be enough. Even in the most economically developed countries of Europe and America, lack of protection has been an issue. Countries like Tajikistan are already struggling with their capacity of healthcare system to respond to large scale pandemic.
