Releasing Serval Cats into the Wild

Feliformia wants to release two of these beautiful creatures back into a nature reserve in South Africa. We will be posting the progress from birth till release on this platform, to keep everyone updated on the progress until their release. Once we reach our fundraising goal off $5000 per cat, we will be able to start the process off releasing them back into their natural habitat.

Wild Cats Feliformia is a Captive Breeding Organisation.

Captive Breeding programs are departments within zoos, rescues, sanctuaries and so on in which animals are kept in enclosures and are bred to produce future generations of their species.

Captive breeding programs are not only there to bring in a crowd, their main point is to help conserve animals that are endangered or threatened in the wild so that a species doesn’t become extinct. Extinction rates are going up and it is predicted that 20-50% of the world’s species will become extinct in the next couple decades,

Wild Cats feliformia just like Zoos acts as somewhat of an “arc” by holding these species in captivity and saving their genetic material from total elimination. We also have goals for the reintroduction of these animals back into a natural or wild environment. These reintroduction can help in conservation efforts by keeping population numbers up and decreasing inbreeding and genetic drift. And that is where your help comes in. Not only do we breed and sell these beautiful and wild animals, but we also want to release and introduce them back into the wild, but to release one of these serval cats back into the wild cost money. R50 000 per cat. That’s why we are asking for your donation, big or small to help make this happen.

Servals are medium-sized wild cats with tawny, black-spotted coats and long necks and long legs that allow them to see over savanna grasses. They also have large ears and an acute sense of hearing.

Servals are extremely adaptable but generally prefer tropical Savannah habitats, usually where there is a readily available supply of water and cover in the form of tall grass, reed beds or other riparian vegetation. The margins of the serval’s natural range extend into alpine grasslands and dense forests along the grassy banks of waterways. Servals have been found in high altitude, low temperature environments, such as the Aberdare Mountains in Kenya (altitude 3000 m) and in Kamberg Nature Reserve (Natal) where the elevation ranges from 1585 to 2244 m.
