Reimagining & Reinventing the Erhu

The Erhu in contemporary Singapore today is often believed to be too traditional, outdated and something that is not performed by many youths. It will be a huge pity for something with so much cultural value, to be phased out by the impacts of rapid modernisation after being part of our Chinese heritage for hundreds of years. However, you can play a part in helping us change this.

Calista and Ayden have previously collaborated on a music video with JumbleTunes, producing a double Erhu cover of Frozen’s Into the Unknown in 2019, garnering over 11k views on Youtube and Instagram collectively. This unique instrumental collaboration features two Erhu musicians of very contrasting backgrounds, but with a shared passion to reinvent and reimagine the modern Erhu, and extend its outreach to greater audiences.

This time, I would like to collaborate with Ayden once again, to explore something that has become extremely popular with the youths - Butter by BTS. This K-Pop hit amassed 347m views in just 3 weeks since its release and has been trending across all social media platforms. Hence, riding on its current hype will definitely be a good opportunity to come up with a viral digital production, and become a compelling step to achieving our goal.
