I am Szabina Sztojka, and I am a seminary student serving as a Student Associate Minister at an ecumenical international church (St. Columba Scottish Church) in Budapest, Hungary.

My dream as a child was to visit Africa, and later I have decided to become a missionary. Even though I did not become a missionary, I did visit Africa in 2018.

In 2018, I attended the International School of Reconciliation in Rwanda. Here I experienced something that can only be explained by the word: miracle. Why? Because Rwanda has been teaching the world how to forgive since the genocide in 1994.

In Rwanda, I witnessed how a Rwandan woman forgave the man who killed members of her family. The man confessed and repented from the depth of his heart and begged for forgiveness.

I also went through the workshop myself, the workshop that leads us through the journey of reconciliation. I received healing, healing of memories and could forgive those who hurt me or my family in some ways only because being Roma.

I asked myself the question: if all this, reconciliation between different groups is possible in Rwanda, wouldn’t it be possible in Hungary?

Since then different parts of my life connected in this ministry: my international experiences, my life story, my ethnic background it all turned into a dream. A yearning for nations, ethnic groups, racial groups to be able to reconcile with each other in the world, and in Hungary.

I am grateful for having opportunities to run workshops and trainings in Hungary, Moldova, Ukraine, Lithuania and the USA for very different people groups.

How can you help me?

I have joined the international team, and to my surprise they have invited me to be a facilitator and trainer at the International School of Reconciliation (ISOR) in March 2020, in Rwanda. People will attend this school from all over the world. All trainers and participants need to pay for their flight tickets and participation fees, through which we can support the work of the local organizations. (Rabagirana Ministries - http://rabagirana.org)

I would like to ask your contribution and help in raising the amount that is needed for me to go and facilitate at the International School of Reconciliation (ISOR) in Rwanda.

I would spend a month in Rwanda, when I would help in the preparation of the school and then in running the school where we run the workshop, have a training of future facilitators and then a practicum in local communities.

Why me? I don’t think I am special, but somehow my journey, and God lead me here.I am not talking about a vacation in Africa, I would love to give back to this community that gave me so much. I would like to go home strengthened and continue this ministry.

Thank you so much for contributing to this ministry, every little donation and funding counts! Thank you for supporting this ministry in Rwanda, in the world, and in Hungary through me.

What is the goal?

As a first step, I need funding for my flight ticket: 650 dollars.

Second step is to raise the participation fee that is 700 dollars.

My vaccinations will be 150 dollars.

  • Dear Szabina! Eres de gran inspiración. I wrote this piece about you in my PCUSA report- I want to share with you :) "Reverend Szabina Sztojka impacted me on a number of levels and really spoke to the ideas of unity and community in an era of divisiveness. She shared her testimony through ....as part of the Roma community. As a minority population in Hungary, she has struggled with discrimination. Despite the discrimination, she shared how the church can provide a sacred space for restoration and also to help lead the country" In solidarity, Yenny
