Three fifths of the Ramos family are running the Hackney Half Marathon (London) in support of the Kalahari Experience. We invite you to sponsor us on this 21km run. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
A bit about the cause:
The Kalahari Experience is a service project led by the Kalahari Experience Education Trust of South Africa, whose mission it is to work together with educators and local communities to inspire, motivate and empower Kalahari students to reach their potential through teaching, advocacy and the provision of necessary resources and support.
They work in collaboration with international schools from around the world, including Frankfurt International School (Germany) which saw all 3 Ramos siblings through schooling. They are committed to enhancing and sustaining the education of the people of the Moshaweng Valley of South Africa, as well as developing the character of international student participants to grow into socially responsible global citizens.
The Moshaweng Valley is an isolated area in the Kalahari Desert approximately 100 kilometres north of Kuruman. Most of the 10 villages in the Moshaweng Valley are accessible only by unpaved road. Many of the people in this area are not original residents, but were “displaced” during apartheid. They were sent to this semi-desert area that is now home to approximately 30,000 people. It is one of the poorest areas in South Africa.
Laura will be visiting the Moshaweng Valley in July 2017, working alongside students from FIS to teach the local students and prepare them for their examinations.
All fundraising goes directly to Kalahari children and their learning.
