Campaign Story
Last year I had the great privilege to spend one week deep in the Ecuadorean Amazon with the Siekopai community.
Having pets such as dogs and cats is a recent development for the Siekopai, and unfortunately, a lack of access to veterinarian care in particular relating to their pets' castration/sterilisation has meant that the number of dogs in particular has gotten rather out of control with all the consequences that entails (there are currently 50 dogs and cats between the various Siekopai families).
After consulting with the family, it was agreed that we would look for a way of getting a veterinary team to come to the community, to check the overall health of the animals there, as well as castrating and sterilising the dogs and cats.
From the 9-12th December, a team from the Ecuadorean Animal Protection charity (PAE) will come to the jungle from Quito to perform these tasks.
They will also be giving the community a basic training course in animal husbandry so that they will be able to continue with any longer term treatments the animals need.
The total cost will be $2000. PAE will be paying $1000 and this crowdfunding campaign is to raise the other $1000.
