We are fund raising for a new set of 4 radios & the £75 licence required. The radios that we used during the last badger cull didn't hold the charge and have now deteriorated even further putting sabs at risk weekly. Radios are needed for communications in our remote area where deep valleys mean we need higher-powered radios than the standard walkie talkie. These radios should be compatible with all other groups using UHF radios. They are also much more difficult to earwig on - some groups have found that hunts are using the same cheaper radios which do not have the same encoding as these. Incidence of aggression from hunts is increasing, so we need far better and more reliable communications so that we can safely cover a bigger area than previously. Better communication means we can go out in smaller groups and cover a larger area. We have had to stay in bigger groups for safety reasons, prompted by an incident while sabbing the Dart Vale and South Pool Hunt this Saturday (17th Jan) when two sabs without radio communication were mown down by a huntsman and needed backup. Our area has some of the poorest coverage of phone signal, as evidenced by the Countryside Alliance campaign on this issue, during the badger cull our phones were useless.
Any donations would be very gratefully received and the radios will be used for hunt sabbing and the upcoming badger cull in Somerset. Thank you.
