As many of you who are reading this page already know, in 1965 two well respected New York psychologists, tired of the dysfunction which permeated their personal and professional relationships, joined together in the declaration “there must be a better way” and agreed to find it together.  The two colleagues, Bill Thetford and Helen Schucman were professors of medical psychology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians.  At that moment unbeknownst to either, Helen was to become the “scribe” and Bill to be entrusted with making the decisions as to what would be included and excluded from the generalized version of the notes that would later be published as A Course in Miracles.

 

Approximately four months later on the 21st of October, an “inner Voice” heard by Helen and identified as the voice of Jesus, spoke to Helen and said, "This is a course in miracles, please take notes” and to his credit when asked for his advice, Bill Thetford counselled her to do just that.

 

So as Helen listened to the voice of Jesus, she took notes in a personalized version of ‘shorthand.’  These began with the promise, “You will see miracles through your hands through Me.”  While Helen generally took the ‘notes’ down in the evening, the VOICE could and would speak to her at any time she asked or made herself available.  The notes she received were then put into a typed document by Bill each morning before they began their work.  The result became what has become commonly known as the “Ur-Text.”  However what did not come to light till much later was the fact that within the first part of the document there were yet many notes that did not get included at the time, but have now been made available through transcription.  It has become our guidance to make this transcription into a simple book for any and all who may feel lead to read these notes for themselves.

 

Throughout that period of time it took for Jesus to complete his discourse and instructions, the communication between Jesus and Helen, contained not only direction for the Course but also personal information, guidance and instruction to and for her.  The nature of this communication and direction given Helen can be experienced in these notes as Jesus assured her while gently addressing and correcting her own personal perceptual disorders, fears and guilt while also addressing those of man and mankind in general. He guided her in in the way she and Bill could be of service to the brotherhood of man including her own close personal relationships with friends and colleagues as well as all the members of the separated Sonship who would seek his help and guidance.

 

In light of this guidance and our own, while also being the fiftieth year anniversary of that beneficent event in space/time, we have been blessed with the ability to make available a simple printed edition of the first 8 chapters of the unabridged notes of Helen Schucman which not only will stand alone in its significance but also serve as a companion to the Sparkly Edition of A Course In Miracles.

 

These notes show us the loving and corrective nature of Jesus in his relationship with both Helen and Bill while demonstrating that a very real personal relationship is available to each and every one of us with both Jesus and the Holy Spirit as the Course for all of us is designed to foster within our own hearts and minds.

 

Our intention is to use a number of mediums including this one as a means of raising funds for this publication and its distribution - The Unabridged Notes of Helen Schucman– First 8 Chapters of a Course in Miracles.

 

The retail cost of the book will be set at $19.95 + shipping and handling.  However in order to increase the number of this first printing run we would like to make PRE-Publication Sales available at $15 + $3 S&H per copy.  In the event there are likewise those who feel the importance of this being made available to any and all who would find it helpful and are guided to do so, please feel free to use this as a way to donate whatever you have been led to.
