Phillippines Project Tech 2019

This August (2019), I am going to the Philippines for a 5-day immersive summer trip in one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Cebu City to empower youths and young children with coding classes, cultural activities and more…

This will be the first meetup of “Project Tech” - doing kind with technology, a 5-day immersive event that will involve travelling to Cebu, Philippines, organising coding workshops for youths, feeding the neighbourhoods of 500 people, building learning spaces for the children centre, learning from entrepreneurs and getting to know other awesome people.

Why I do this?

Since October 2018, I have visited the Rise Above Foundation Cebu, a local charity who aims to improve the livelihood of poor kids and families in Cebu City, for a few times. Every time I visited them, it has filled me with joy, compassion and love for the children, youth, families in the city.

As a software engineer, I think one of the greatest things that I can contribute is to teach the young people in the neighbourhood about coding and engineering while sharing my passion in technology. Teaching them the skills of problem solving, creative and critical thinking with hands-on experience can be a great way to spark their interest in science and technology, not to mention to provide them the opportunity to learn high-valued skills that may change their life trajectories.

What is the better way to do it with other like-minded people? Hence, I organise this event and bring a group of friends and strangers to Rise Above Cebu with me this time. Other than traveling and having fun with other inspiring people, the biggest reason for the event is to give back to the society, with our passion and gift in tech.

What are the goals?

I am always passionate about technology and I believe it can be a means to empower people around the world. This event revolves around:

• Travelling with purpose,
• Meeting inspirational entrepreneurs and learning their stories
• Giving back to the society
• Sharing our passion in tech to youths in underprivileged cities
• Solving real problems through immersive experience

How we help?

• Organise tech / coding workshops for 20-30 teenagers to spark their interests in science and technology
• Feed 500 kids and their families in the neighbourhoods of Cebu City
• Support local women in recycling bag making
• Build learning space (with projector) in children community center

In order to achieve the above goals, I would like your help in support me and my team through donation. The target amount of fund that we hope to raise is HK$2000, with all the proceedings to the charity and the feeding program, where 500 people can be benefited.

A little money goes a long way in developed country like the Philippines. I hope that with the fund we raised, we can give back to the society and support youths and families in the local community.
