Help Laura get to Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London

I am Laura, an acting student at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, Croatia, and I have gotten an incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity to study at MA Acting for Screen at one of the most prestigious drama schools in the world- The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Some of its alumni include great names such as Sir Laurence Olivier, Dame Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Cicely Berry, Andrew Garfield and many others. My feelings, when I found out I was accepted, cannot be explained in words, because I have been dreaming of an acting education in London almost all of my life.

Unfortunately, I soon found out that I wasn't successful in getting a scholarship from the school, and that I had no other choice but to find a way to pay for all of the costs by myself. After Brexit, as an international student in the UK, I am no longer eligible for student loans and other bursaries and scholarships. On top of that, tuition fees have DOUBLED for EU students. With enormous support and effort from my family, we have managed to cover only half of the tuition fee. For the other half, which amounts to £11,342 (€13,090), I turn to you, my dear benefactors, for support. Without it, I won't be able to pay for the rest of my tuition fee and continue my education in London.

Why Central?

There is no formal education in screen acting and film and TV industry in Croatia, and all of the drama schools are theatre-focused. This often makes young actors’ first steps into the screen industry even harder, as the only way they can learn about it is through experience. This is one of the main reasons MA Acting for Screen at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is so valuable to me. Not only does it perfectly complement my theatre acting training so far, but it offers a unique opportunity for me to learn about my great passion- film and screen performance. It offers world-class education in screen acting, filmmaking, the film industry, and the business side of the acting profession.

Why acting?

Theatre and film recognize life as important and tirelessly stay curious about it. That is why they can, when they are of high quality, communicate with people on a deep personal level; that is why they are so important. This curiosity and my wish to contribute to the making of high quality art, motivate me to further develop my craft and learn more, more and more. I aspire to be able to give the best of myself through my work, hoping that someone, somewhere, might be touched by it, or even, as Peter Brook said, left with a little more courage.

COSTS AND WHAT THE FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR

They say that an excellent education is worth every penny. That said, I'm going to need a lot of pennies...

I'm paying for my tuition fee in two instalments, and I am crowdfunding for the second one, which adds up to £11,342 (€13,090).

If a miracle happens, and I raise more than that, the money will be used for living expenses (which are pretty high in London). But the tuition fee is the priority!
