Campaign Story
Hi, my name is Henri, and I’m a student from Hong Kong. I did not come
from an affluent family in Hong Kong, and I did not have the means to go
to university. I started working right after I finished my high school,
and I saved up a bit of money for going to university one day. Due to
the change in the educational system in Hong Kong, it was not plausible
for me to be admitted into a university here or elsewhere based on my
current academic profile. I eventually applied to study at the Open
University UK to study French and German, which I always wanted to
study. In fact, I already possess a good level of French after years of
going to languages classes and self learning. I had also passed the DELF
B2 exam in 2018. However, it is very hard to apply for jobs without a
university degree here. That is why I would like to finish a university
degree for that purpose.
I had worked in several sectors of
business, and I stayed at my current job in a hotel for around 5 years.
Due to COVID-19 and last year’s large scale protests, the hotel industry
and the aviation industry had taken a severe hit. Furthermore, many
other sectors of the economy do not have an optimistic prospect. Despite
that I’m grateful that I still have a job, I have been taking no pay
leaves (for half a month each month) for over a year now. I used my
savings to study the first year of my degree, but it was difficult for
me to continue studying due to a huge reduction in my salary. A large
portion of my salary is used to support my family since my father has
been asked to retire early, and my mother has been asked the same
recently. I planned to use my savings for my study, but I had been using
them to provide for my family for the past year. Therefore I am asking
for your help to help me finish my degree so I can find a better job to
support my family.
It is my dream to study in my university,
however, I did not perform well in high school. That is largely due to
the subjects I chose were unsuitable for me. After a few years of
working, I finally realised what I want to study, and I have been
working really hard for it. My performances also proved that this is the
right path for me. I had studied two modules for my first year of
study, and I received distinctions for both modules. I hope that you can
support me and my family through this difficult time. I will forever be
grateful!
I am confident in my study and I will keep you updated about my progress to get my university degree!
