PhD Education Funding

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Innovation and Knowledge Management at Near East University (Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi) based in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. As an international student and late-career researcher, a partial scholarship has been awarded by the university, and the rest of the cost is covered by private backers.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has not only devasted the economies of the world but has negatively impacted the financial sustainability of higher education and private funding has diminished substantially. Many governments around the globe have reduced university grants forcing universities to review their budgets and annual priorities. Among new priorities is the focus on funding younger researchers and excluding those who are older than 35 years of age. There have also been considerable investments made towards digitizing campuses to support continued learning.

Although substantial savings have been realized with the postponement of diluted (face-to-face) activities, including conferences and international travel, considerable amounts of money have been spent to ensure campuses comply with health and safety protocols when staff and students return

I am raising funds to cover the compulsory residency in Spring Semester 2021 - 22 and tuition fees, research costs (conference attendance and required license fees for statistical analysis software) from my second year until the end of the program (4 semesters). The registered Ph.D. program takes 3 years but an extra year may be required to publish the prescribed articles and final manuscript.
