The Peruvian Amazon forests have some of the most diverse species on the planet. Operation Wallacea is part of a group of projects in the area organised by various conservation groups, universities and government agencies. These projects are trying to set up long-term biodiversity conservationthrough a mixture of community-based and protected area approaches. The research and conservation activities use an interdisciplinary approach to find a balance between the needs of the indigenous people and the conservation of the animals and plants.
