Pennies for pawpaw

I received this blessing as a gesture of compassion from her family to mine. It brought me to tears, and I can not express what her prayers and generosity means to us. Her gift also sparked a surge of hope inside me and lead to this post. The need for my reaching out to raise $2000 is to have the air conditioner repaired in my parents vehicle. If Texas summers weren't already horrible, there is now a greater reason.

Last week we learned that what we thought was a nasty case of pneumonia was so much more. My step-dad, Jim Nelson, aka Pawpaw, has been diagnosed with small cell carcinoma, which began in his lung, and is now in the liver, and the brain. The harder news...Stage 4. There are also complications with the gallbladder which makes it incredibly painful to eat, so as such, it's now been 7+ days with no food.

With a new life here in Austin in his scope, and work at hand, this was very hard to comprehend, but he did immediately and has told the doctors, "Do what needs to be done." They acted quickly and chemotherapy is already in progress and will continue from now through mid October. Getting him back and forth to the treatments means hours of travel in the brutal heat, especially during the afternoons. At some point we will learn when radiation on the brain will begin, and yet additional travel.

The card/blessing I received today lead me ask of my family, friends, brothers, sisters, to help us meet this need. Help us to raise enough funds to repair the a/c in their car and make an unpleasant situation a more bearable one. Although this may seem impossible, nothing is impossible with God and Pawpaw is fighting to live, and we are fighting with him.

Please help too, pennies count! I believe with all of my heart that God hears this prayer and will fulfill this need through those who feel lead to give. May those who give with their hearts be blessed a million fold.

I know that there is more love and compassion out there in the world and, if we just reach out to one another, it blossoms! We love our Pawpaw, help us keep him smiling!
