Payton’s USA Fund

Hi, My name is Payton Bam. I’m currently 19 years old and live in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

l recently graduated in November of last year and my plan this year was to pursue my dream of becoming an au pair in the United States.

I was fortunate enough to get a full time job as a teacher for 2-3 year-olds at one of the daycares in my city to gain both experience and funding for my future plans, but unfortunately got retrenched 3 months into my job due to Covid-19.

God closed one door in my life, but opened a window with a part time babysitting job that I was able to find during lockdown. I’m saving every little bit that I earn from this job, but unfortunately it is not bringing in half as much as what I was previously earning at the daycare.

A few months later, my mom had also been retrenched from her job due to the virus. It’s been difficult this year and I wish that I was in a position that I could help her financially, but unfortunately I haven’t been since losing my full time job.

I am very grateful to have found a part time job in this difficult time, although I am still struggling financially. I am registered with a current au pair program and have been talking to families in the States for a few months now.

My agency does not allow for the host family to cover finances for the au pair, so I am trying everything that I can to raise the money, including starting a part time baking business.

My program fee is R20 000, and I would still need to cover finances for my passport, visa and compulsory medical checks.

Coming from a young girl who just wants to be able to get out of South Africa and pursue her dream, I ensure that any amount donated, big or small, will be so incredibly appreciated and go such a long way!
